The New Project

Wow it has been 2 weeks since I finished my last Kal project (knit along ) for those of you just tuning in. I started my second Kal project had to rip back a few rows and the Bam!!!!! like a sledge Hammer I was Hit with a pinched nerve in my neck (can you say Ouch ???) well talk about your life coming to a screeching halt.

For a week I was UN able to do anything but sit in a chair and stair at the walls take pain meds ands and muscle relaxers and what not Yuck !!!couldn't even hold up a magazine.

Then a dear friend said to rest my arms on a fluffy pillow in my lap and Ta Da!! I am even able to knit short amounts at a time . The doc said its going to take a few weeks to get back to normal

(not sure I was ever normal ) but at least I can look at knitting magazines and knit here and there.

Well I finished my kal on Tuesday night as planned however I was on a RV trip and the campsite Internet was down and company provider for my phone couldn't get their act together so No Internet for almost 5 days OMG!!!!!!! yes I would like some cheese with my whine LOL.

The hat came out nice thinking about tyring another one later. The RV trip was nice family around 1 son in a catfish Derby at this Great place MC ALPINE lake awesome awesome awesome.
any fun was had by all back home now cleaning up RV and awaiting my Kal partners word to start our next project Fingerless glove I will keep you updated as I know more until next time

Row 42 and counting

Well my Kal is at row 42 right where it should be it's all done hill from here should be done Tuesday evening as I will not have time to work on it tmw.
but a lass it has be en fun except for the fact that my Kal partner who is an uber knitter couldn't stop at row 42 no she had to finish the hat ahead of schedule get it hat ahead/ never mind .
Hers turned out great hope mine does to will have pictures posted . soon
next I think we are doing fingerless gloves

The Hat

well as you can see or maybe you can't see not a great picture I have finally got the pattern right .
I am now ready to knit 14 rows of just plain knitting YEA for me.

Um what was that ? why is the hat now blue?

well um ok here goes I got 17 rows done in the pattern on the brown Hat (yarn was soft but awful to knit with.) anyway last group of stitches in the last pattern row and I was off by 2 yes 2 so
I proceeded to un knit to find my mistake (did I mention the yarn was awful) the yarn kept splitting and getting frayed so I tossed the hat bought some new yarn and Ta DA .So even though this hat has been a pain it aslo has been alot of fun so far. I have put together several techniques that I have not done all in one project now I am getting ready for our next project. Sunday is our day to have 14 row straight knitting done I will keep you posted.

Stage 2 of my KAL

well after messing up the pattern twice and frogging twice (frogging to rip out or ribit ) any way I decided my needles were to big so I took it all out and started again on a size smaller needles love the pattern not sure about the needle size now anyway I will be finishing it on these needles if to small it will be for a child instead.

My KAL partner's looks awesome as she sent me her picture yesterday

the picture is not great but I am still learning how to post this stuff.

So the fun begins

In my last post I told you about the KAl (knit along) I was starting with my dear friend in Iowa. and that my beginnings where not so great. but I met the first part of the deadline with moments to spare.
So far the knitting was easy once I got the right needle size :{

So now our goal in the KAL is to have rows 9 through 18 done by Wednesday wow Not sure for me if I will get there but I am going to do my best the pattern seems pretty straight forward but there are some techniques I don't use a lot.

I hope to have a picture for you by the end of today :)

It's Been A Long Time

Wow I can't believe its August already. In my usual lack of order in my life it seems time has gotten away from me. Last November a week after my last post I lost My Mother to lung cancer it was a brief out of no where diagnosis in Sept and i took care of her in my home and On November 15th she was gone. :( I truly Miss her..
the last 9 months have been dealing with the loss and trying to pick up the pieces and move on.

I am now digging my knitting out once again and trying to get back to so regular stuff. so I am jumping in with both feet. My dear friend who I mentioned in my last post Nov 7 /09 we are doing a swap which we always have a fun time its just the 2 of us in the swap I highly recommend this once a year its great fun to start off the fall season looking forward to a surprise box in the mail.
we come up with a list of questions we both answer and the fun begins.

On top of that we are doing a simultaneous knitting project its a hat we picked from several patterns I picked the one I could understand most of the Directions LOL
Did I mention this was my Idea (not very smart ) seeings as my friend is and exquisite knitter and talented too ( I think don't like her much) No really she is awesome and she has helped me jump start my life and I am thankful I have a friend like that. So that being said I have cast on and ripped off 3 times and then do I realize that my circular are big I have been trying to cast on a size 8 20 inch circular needle and was supposed to be a size 8 16inch circular needle who would have thought 4 inches would reek such havoc and I must have 4 rows of ribbing and 4 rows of plain knitting done by Sunday YIKES wouldn't be bad except I have a birthday cake to bake tomorrow a surprise dinner to make Saturday for my sons birthday at a friends house and then there is the fact that some time tomorrow between baking a cake preping food while son is at work remember its a surprise !! I know have to go to the knit shop (heres the bad part ) run in and get needles and run out no looking at or touching the new yarn no thumbing through the new knitmagazine just in and out ouch that's going to hurt :( oh well never wait till the last minuet it never works ..Until next time Keep knitting

sock blanks are great for knitting to socks at the same time because you get a matching set !

Is it really fall ??

Has anyone seen the rain or the frost filled morning's of fall??

I am patiently waiting but so far Nothing!! Nada !! zip!! :( I am a knitter and cold weather rain frost hot coco and knitting go hand in hand. Its to warm for hot coco The sun outside makes me feel guilty when I pick up my knitting instead of tending the yard .So what gives ?

On the other hand I could knit and ignore the sun and the yard and perhaps I could turn a fan on so I could drink the hot coco hmmmm !

well I am knitting here and there while waiting for fall to hit.

I am working on a hat that I will have pictures soon also another set of fingerless gloves different pattern and yarn so we shall see.

Halloween was once again a success at my house .All my kids are grown but for the last five years my Daughter has come up and with her brothers and myself we scare the neighbor hood kids ,and sometimes even the parents .
a lot of the people in the neighbor hood ask if we will do it again the next year. we usually set up part of the yard the week before Halloween and make a plan for special scare tactics and such . Then the afternoon of Halloween we put the finishing touches on and when the sun goes down the scaring begins.
what takes us 13 hours plus to prepare and set up is quickly and quietly taken down and put away after the last trick or treater's are gone .
(sadly the taking down and packing away takes 30 minuets)
so the morning after it looks like Halloween never happened, we have a great time watching or should I say chasing and scaring the trick or treater's (except the tiny ones)they just get treats the ghosts stay hidden when the little ones are out.

Wow time has gone buy to quickly since my last post I thought I was going to have more time to post before now ! I was wrong. I was in a great swap with I friend I met several years ago in a swap .
we had so much fun we did a swap of our own. I received a beautiful hand made lace scarf lots of goodies and some beautiful yarn that I am looking to knit soon.

In the mean time I made my daughter a pair of fingerless gloves , which has opened the flood gates. I have been requested to make more in every color of the rainbow now.

I also started a pumpkin baby hat which so far seems to be a lot of fun., however I caught my self reading ahead in the pattern which got me totally confused so decided just to read as I go I have found I knit better that way. It was a good friends advice that taught me that.

My Daughter was visiting yesterday and today spent the two days decorating the outside of the house for halloween . We love to scare the kids every year and they like to be scared.
I will post pictures soon of my new projects.

I took a break from knitting for a while after I lost the baby sweater I was working on.

But now thanks to Ravelry I found a couple of great quick projects that got me over the loss of my sweater.

Time moves on even after loss

well in my last post I was mourning the loss of a great pair of needles and a half done baby sweater.

still cant for the life of me figure out why a half done sweater would run off but what's
done is done.

On the bright side I got to shop for new yarn with no guilt!!!! and even got a little extra because I needed to make my self fell better (he he)
so I now am finishing up 2 very small projects then I will post pictures and I am starting a new sweater with new yarn I got

so now I need to figure out a way not to loose this new sweater.
Back from Tahoe yet again.
and Now getting ready to go camping at a lake for a few days and have a big BBQ for Easter with all the kids and family.

I should have my projects finished and posted the day After Easter.
if I don't loose them !!!!!!!

Tragedy of A sweater !!!!

We pick up our story back from Tahoe I am gleefully working on the second of my baby sweaters .

I went to a Friends house to knit and visit with a group that meets once a week for knitting rug hooking chatting cookies and coffee!. any way had a wonderful evening show and tell projects
so you know I was showing off my 3/4 done baby sweater and the one half done on needlesl I was working on that evening.

Got home the next day I packed (yes you guessed it for Tahoe) my husband loves to ski go figure.
anyway pack my knitting I am going to have spring weather Yeah sit outside by fire and knit away the afternoon all is well.

We are driving to Tahoe a day early because chance of snow showers on our original travel day
you cant put chains on an RV any way sure enough while driving lite snow showers start to fall we make it to the camp ground in the nick of time,now mind you the weather report said a couple inches of snow at lake level no biggie be melted by next after noon Right (NOT) a foot later and 7 degrees outside I thought it was spring!!!!!!!!!

well anyway set up camp get ready to knit for a bit before dinner and no sweater I tear all the knitting bags apart I brought (yes I travel with several different projects ) still no sweater.

Call friends house see if it fell out of bag there nope !! Now my heart is racing call home see if fell out there or in truck that I drove to friends still nothing.
Its seems that my sweater did not want to go back to Tahoe at 7 degrees who can blame it .
Yes I have considered putting a picture of it on a milk carton offering a reward but I don't take pictures of many projects that are on the needles.

Thought about an APB but how do you describe it and where would it go??

I can replace my good needles I was using but Not sure about the yarn I bought last time I traveled to Reno. I bought 2 skeins of2 different colors for twins sweaters with colors reversed now I only have half of the yarn I need.
so needless to say I am not working on baby sweater and I am mourning the loss of my yarn and a good pair of needles I think I will do a different pattern with new yarn now so yes you guessed it
the stuff that didn't get lost will go in my newly cleaned stash that I wasn't buying for.
So if you should see my lost knitting will you tell it I am looking for it and it can show up anytime no questions asked

This is a dog sweater I knit in 2 days because it was pooring rain and we where in the Rv camping. ha ha ha

I enjoyed knitting it it was my own patteren for my daughters dog her color choices very bright with a little dive thrown in around the neck.

I just got back from Lake Tahoe and the biggest snow storm of the season white out conditions for 3 days so started 2 baby sweaters now almost done I will post pictures soon.

went to stitches west the knitting show in California 2 separate days first day with a group of friends.
It was a lot of fun being with them and looking at different color choices than my own. the second Day I went with my wonderful husband who is such a good sport even if he doesn't understand what all the fuss is about its just fuzzy string Right? but he knows I had been waiting all year for this show so he was being supportive. (aw!!!)

Now I am In a swap with a friend I met in a swap a few years ago and we have stayed in touch ever since. s
So we decided it would be fun to do a swap just her and I of favorite things plus one hand made thing so I have been shopping and planning this is going to be great !

Oh Heck!!

Well I have started my yarn organization per last blog took me three days. sheesh!!!
but Now it is all in order so went out and bought some new yarn for a project not for stash I know what your thinking.
That in my last blog I said I wasn't going to buy any more yarn (well not much) until current stuff is off the needles well you would think that would be okay except 2 of the projects I ripped out completely so I have one true project on needles and one that is just a stress buster of mindless knitting so New project here we go!!!.

I Have started to teach one of my daughters to knit and we are making a gift together for an up coming baby shower so that's what the new project is something for baby Not telling you what it is but it will have 2 or 3 things that go with it by the time we are done ( I Hope).

Weather in California right now is sucky hardly any rain or snow to speak of the ground hog said six more weeks of winter but we haven't really had any weeks of winter yet so hopefully it will get here soon ...!

2008 /2009

well The holidays have come and gone , The new year is started off with a bang. and now its all down hill. I have a yarn stash that needs to be organized and re thought what will gt done first last or not at all. I have made a new years vow (simply because resolutions never work)

I am not going to start any new projects or purchase and new yarn (well not a lot ) till I finish the 4 projects already on needles.

I have also decided that I am going to make my self a daily schedule that will allow me knitting time with out guilt of neglecting my tasks around the house . I have problems sitting down to knit at home because I see things that I should do makes it hard to knit.

I will not be traveling that much this year (that's when I knit ) because of the economy so life needs adjustments.

so on word and up word.

Also may need to move this year so I am re thinking my stash and what I truly love to knit and what I knit to keep up with the current state of knitting, so I may down size my stash more is not always better if its not what you love.

Its been since before Thanks Giving since I have written. wow thats a long time sorry Guys and Gals.

Hand surgery is over and started using my hand again today Just in the nick of time before the holidays.
I did manage to finish a small project before the surgery pictures hopefully to follow.

I am now getting ready to decorate the Tree for the Holidays and start The baking and hopefully finish some last minuet Christmas projects. But not to much at once.

Get to use my hand slowly and build it back up so I don't wreck it again.

I found some great wash cloth patterns and I am going to try and do some of my own once I get the hang of them.

would like to design allot more than copy others work just need to jump in and try I guess.
The holidays are fun But this is when I miss my Dad the most. He has been gone 30 years but I still miss him.

this was just a brief update till I have time to really sit and think.

Where do The days Go ?

My last blog was 3 days before Halloween now it's12 Days before Thanks Giving.

Yes I am still working on my fingerless gloves and also starting a scarf and 2 penny rugs plus several holiday projects.

So Still no pictures as you can plainly see but almost finished with penny rug and I will probably take some pictures of works in progress so you can see I actually knit!

Have a lot of things in my head about my book however haven't been able to get them from my head to my laptop as of yet , maybe that will just have to wait till after the Holidays

I host all the holidays at my home 5 grown children a spouse a Mother in laws ect ect so I Will be busy cooking and cleaning the next 10 weeks and trying to knit Lol.

Halloween is 3 day's away. where does the time go??

well yes I am still slowly knitting on my fingerless gloves , in the mean time got a new book with a scarf I want to try.

Got my lap top ready to start writing my knitting book or book about knitting.
Not sure where I want to start hoping I will be inspired by something.

Weather here is starting to get cooler and forecast calls for rain I can't wait. my knitting will get more attention now that it will be to wet to work outside.

The best part about the rain coming means there will be snow to ski on soon (for my husband ) which means even more time to knit Yippee.

well this was just a small informal update so you didn't think I left with out a word.

Well birthday's Finely celebrated my children another year older and we all know what that does to my age.!

still working on my fingerless gloves love the pattern .I am Not a fast knitter as you can tell (no pictures of completed stuff) but I am not as slow as you might think.

I just can't seem to sit down at home a knit with out feeling guilty,about not cleaning or cooking or laundry. so much of my stolen knitting moments are on the Bart train which is once a month

or when we go out of town for the weekend .

My best progress time is you guessed it SKI SEASON!!! which I hope gets here sooner than later I do not ski much anymore to much work putting on all that gear to sit and a chair in the freezing cold and whoosh down a mountain at a mind blowing 5 mph ( I don't ski fast either)just to turn around and do it again.

So I am more content to sit in the hotel room or the ski lodge with a cup of 1/2 hot chocolate 1/2 coffee and knit the day away.

However I have caught myself cleaning up the hotel room a little before the maid comes in to clean before I start knitting (go figure).

My wonderful Husband just shakes his head and laughs.

He forgets that we come to stay at the same motel more than once in a season and I don't want to be remembered as the messy couple in rm #*** .

Have I mentioned That I am considering writing a book ? Bet You can't guess what it will be about.

How ever even though I am sure you have figured out what it will be about I want it to be different (yes everyone says that) but for me it is true I want it to be part of what I think and have learned about knitting but I want to include different peoples ideas

Not people who have all ready written books but the people who read and use those books out there . what they would like to see in a pattern book or what would help them understand directions better.

what is lacking in other books that would help them. Me for one I need pictures more than words.

Yes I know there are books out there called Visual knitting how ever I don't think 2 pages with four pictures per topic is enough to learn anything (just me) so I want it to be better.

If you want to learn more than the basics you shouldn't have to have 5 different books to help you make a sweater that fits with 2 different patterns and how to do it.

Are ya with me?? OK any way that's the scoop for now I will be taking ideas and thoughts for this book later and yes if I use your Idea I will put your name in the book , Yes I realize I may have a whole chapter of names of people who contributed to the book and why not A book for knitter's by knitter's What a novel concept (ha ha ha novel).

I leave you with this un answered question who decides which end of the yarn to pull first ?

My new book finely came and wouldn't you know it I have not had one moment to even read past the dedication yikes.
what week and a half its been, Oct 1st was my eldest daughters 28 Th birthday and Oct 13 soon approaching is one of my elder sons birth day.

Car in the shop cakes to be made dinners to cook .I cant wait for next week. so I can sit with a scone and a cup of tea or coffee and read just a chapter, just one little chapter.

Did manage to go on an outing this weekend to one of my favorite yarn shops,where I met a young lady who had just put out her first knitting pattern in the store I of course purchased it and so far I am having a wonderful time with it . The pattern is for fingerless wrist cuffs with a Celtic design very lovely indeed I will post a picture as soon as one is done.
working on socks as well now that i think I have the pattern issue sorted out.

well on to birthday prep and silliness and of course laundry cleaning house and cooking, and hopefully some knitting and a chapter in my new book.

I do have a ??? does anyone have the book visual guide to sock knitting and what do you think??

Well I found both of my sock patterns and then it hit me (hard) If I stort the mate to my socks and get to the same spot as I left off on the other socks I should be able topick up from there more or less.

Unfortunately It hit while I was in the middle of ripping back one of the socks but at least it wasn't all my socks.!!!!!!! :)

Now the deal is to find a new way to right down rows and not lose the paper and keep it with the sock. I travel so much running errands and stuff how does one travel well with important pieces of paper, There is the indispensable note pad, zip lock bag, whats new????

I being a collector of all things bag related need New and trendy!!
I have several Jordon Page Bags one from Knitters Magazine (I use that one a lot) several small back packs . couple of over sized bags that double as knitting and purse .
But still I search for the perfect bag ( suggestions and Ideas welcome).

Answer to my Waiting

Well my book I have been waiting for is not being shipped till Sept 30 rats!! all the excitement all the waiting and I must wait even longer. If there is one think knitting is trying to teach me its Patience (it's Not Working )

So in the mean time I have bought 5 knitting magazines two Halloween Magazines and cleaned my sitting/craft room and alas no sock papers so I must start from scratch.
(that will teach me to leave a sock in the middle of being finished)

So I will rip out three half way done socks and start again good practice (the grass is green the sky is blue the grass is green the sky is blue) they say those words are supposed to help you focus and stay calm WHO ARE THEY??? and how do THEY know what will help ME stay calm Are they knitters ?? do they know what it takes to knit socks and then rip them out?! how do they know me??
DO I know them??? kinda scary if you stop and think about it.

Moving on I am also trying to patiently wait for rain and cold weather fall and winter are my favorite times of year and I love the rain great for Tea & Scones and knitting although Tea and Scones are good anytime it seams easier to get away with on a daily basis i n fall and winter.

Now I am starting to save space and money for stitches west thats the big knitting convention and market in my neck of the woods it last 3 day's and takes 2 day's to be able to see everything and shop. well thats all for now my fellow knitters untill next Time

Still Waiting

Well I have been patiently waiting for September first and it has come and gone and still no call that my New Stephenie Pearl McPhee book is in Sheesh How long can it take to ship a book!

I love her Books her stories and funny stuff gets me laughing at my self every time.
I had one of her books on the flight home from Hawaii and The stuff about flying with needles and security gave me the giggles my husband and a few passengers thought I was nuts, or that I had to much to drink .

Here I am in the middle of the plane giggling and they are all watching an action movie
(very serious content) I had to keep putting the book down for fear at would get thrown off the plane at 35,00 feet.

Needles to say the flight home was quite enjoyable. The one complaint I do have about her books is when I have it to read I don't get much knitting done. (oh well)

Back to my prior dilemma I still am searching through knitting bags for patterns and directions and papers for all my half finished socks . Then I started a scarf with some lovely new yarn
(can't remember the name) but it is very nice.
However as lovely as it is I am not liking they way it looks knit up, so I am going to try bigger needles if that doesn't work maybe it will have to wait
till I find the sock patterns and work on them first.

Then there is my wonderful spouse who just looks at me and my stash and walks away shaking his head. He has said more than once you spend more time ripping out than you do knitting, I then must point out to him in order to rip out I must have had something knit you just missed the knitting part,

Then he looks at me with that dear in the headlights look and walks away shaking his head
(I cause him to do that alot).

Well That's all for now just found another knitting bag I need to go through for sock stuff.
Did I mention I have a knitting bag stash almost as big as my yarn stash, well that's a whole new post.

well It's Been Toooooo Long

Well it's been over a year since my last post , I feel really baaaaaaaaaad (sheep joke)

Alot has happened since then. Needed to take a year off from knitting because of hand surgery.
Family member had major surgery,
Kids are a year older, yarn stash is still the same.

My problem now is I have 4 different socks sitting in a basket all at different stages of knitting ,can't find any of my papers were you are supposed to keep track of your finished rows, 2 of them not sure which patteren I was using. What's a knitter to do ??????

Of course one option is to undo everything I have started and start from scratch EWE!!!!!!
(another sheep joke}

another option would be to spend at least an hour trying to count the rows and hope im right.
and if I am not right rip out anyway.

Or ( I am open for suggestions here!!) but be nice please !.

I should also make clear that I do socks on both dpn's Traditional And also socks with one tiny circular needle and use dpn's for heels and toes.

Whats the best way to count heel rows on a sock?? when you dont have the little paper that you know you put in a very safe place so as to avoid the dilema I am facing now

Then there is the one paper I did find for one of my heels but of course I did not name my sock nor the paper so which one does it go to?
I am sure there is a simply answer but as I stated way in the begining of my blogging career that I am blonde and way over fourty so I dont see simple.

Once again boys and girls I must ask for your forgivness at my failer to post in the last four months.

But what a last 4 months its been!!!!!!

I am now once again trying to learn socks on dpns (double pointed needles) for you non knitters , having new floors put in since the water damage in December yes 7 months later

in the fall hope to get carpet back in the fall in the bedrooms and back hallway but enough about the house.

I have found some great sock clubs and lots of great yarns.

I am also designing my own toddler sweater which is kinda fun.

also trying my hand at a mitered square pillow

well I may be able to post once a week now and still trying to finish a project or 2 so I can post some pictures .

sorry guys and gals its been so long since my last blog
alot of knitting beading and fighting with PGE when they blew up half of our appliances in a power serge they created what a mess

worked at the stitches west convention in Santa Clara California what a show almost 300 venders got some new needles and yarns and my favorite Jordan page bag.

The Moebius scarf well i am going to give this a shot sounds kind of fun. trying to save all the socks I have started for the flight at the end of the month. took me 3 days again to get my password reset so I could blog But here I am. My swap is ending soon that I am in hope to be able to join another one it is great fun. getting patterns ready for my sock of the month class and will make it open for anyone who wants to do it from my blog as well Just let me know. My patterns will work for either 3 or 4 dpns or 2 circular needles you choose what works best for you. well got to run sooooooooo long for now

for those of you who have not figured it out yet this blog has been a mess from the start this site worked the first week i had it nd then nothing but problems insce april so i will be using this blog less and my other one more you all know which one that is so for more recent blogs and up dates on my knitting adventures look there i will uses this from time to time and if they ever get the bugs worked out maybe i can use it more. thats it for now maybe weeks before they let me back in here so long

Two cupcakes sitting in the oven one cupcake says"whew its getting hot in here the other cupcake jumps and says" OH!!!! A talking cupcake (this is whereyou laugh) I am a knitter no really! I am I have been knitting for over 5 years and have yet to master it but I am having fun trying. So far I have managed to produce a bazillion scarves , 4 hats a set of baby sock 4 shawls and currently working on a neck down child's sweater, haven't finished the felted bag yet. I have a small yarn stash the my dear husband knows about, but lets just say there was twice as many boxes marked xmas decorations this year.
